Summer has finally arrived and it came with no remorse. It’s been hot as heck. While some of us are delighted, others are dreading the scorching hot sun. Nevertheless, summer is here and seemingly won ’t be going anywhere, anytime soon.
With our second half of the year underway, it’s a wonderful time to reflect, curate, and realign with the personal goals that you set at the beginning of 2025. Let’s take a moment and think back…What goals did you have in mind at the top of the year? How close are you to them? Be honest with yourself. Did you create any goals at all? Why or why not? If your answer is no, is there a specific reason you don’t have any goals set this year? It’s important to ask yourself these questions so that you can understand the root of where this all may stem from. We, as human beings, have the ability to do amazing things, but with that, self-care and self-curation continually needs to be integrated. Checking in with yourself is a way to keep yourself accountable of where you are in regard to where you desire to be.
“The man who says he can, and the man who says he can’t, are both correct.” -Confucius, Chinese philosopher
There are many ways that you can check-in with yourself, such as utilizing reminders, journaling, planning a special event you are looking forward to, meditation, yoga, etc... Setting goals is critical for both personal and professional growth and success. Goals provide benefits that impact different aspects in your life; improving your well-being, enhancing performance, deepening motivation and discipline, and providing a clear-headed direction towards your future self and what that entails. However, simple, non-specific goals tend to fall flat due to the disconnect between your current life, your future intentions, and your why (your reasoning for doing so). Therefore, we want to create goals that are SMART:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-Bound
For example, the goal could be to increase your physical activity to support your overall holistic health. Below, we will walk through the SMART format to create a better tailored goal to your lifestyle.
Goal: Increase physical activity to support my overall holistic health.
SMART Format:
• S (Specific): I want to improve my physical health by committing to a consistent exercise routine that also supports my mental well-being.
• M (Measurable): I will work out 4 times per week, including 2 strength-training sessions and 2 low-impact activities like yoga or walking.
• A (Achievable): I’ll schedule workouts in my calendar by using short online classes and adjust intensity based on my energy levels.
• R (Relevant): Regular movement will reduce stress, increase energy, and support long-term health—key aspects of my holistic wellness journey.
• T (Time-bound): I will maintain this routine for 8 weeks, then reflect and adjust as needed.
SMART goal: I will increase my physical activity to support my overall holistic health by exercising 4 times per week, including 2 strength-training sessions and 2 low-impact activities, for the next 8 weeks, using my calendar and short online classes based on my energy levels.
Now you see that our initial goal has turned into a pinpointed goal with a clear plan to execute. Leading to the next stage of making this goal a reality; readiness & preparation (we won’t get to this right now, but I plan to mention this later in a potential series.)
Next time you create a goal, utilize this format to curate it. I will provide a SMART goal template below that will be free to use and reference. Feel free to download. :)

Give it a go, then come back. If you don’t mind sharing, post one SMART goal in the comments.
I want to remind you that you’re doing a great job so far in this year of 2025. Continue to push through adversity, keep your eyes focused on the end of the tunnel, and find that light; your light from within. Be great, stay active, hydrated, and grounded. Most of all, enjoy life. This is another chance to make this year unforgettable. No matter how it started, how it’s going, it can and will get better. Believe in it and it will arise. Peace & Love. Asé ✨
